Second Place Award
for my pastel
"A Carpenter's Tools"
I am thrilled to announce that I have received Second Place in the
31st Annual Purely Pastel Exhibition and Competition
hosted by Pastel Artists of Canada!
My father, like his own father, was a carpenter by trade. Dad carried my grandfather's old plane and scribe with him in his suitcase when he emigrated to Canada from Ireland back in 1956. The plane’s wood is smooth from the touch of his and his father's hand as they worked their craft. It is nicked and worn and a very special reminder of my father and the art of carpentry that he practiced.
I wanted to share the beauty of these old tools through my painting.
I am heading to Ireland to be the Artist in Residence
on an Archaeological Dig
in County Donegal, Ireland!
As a Canadian of Irish descent, I am inspired to discover more about Ireland’s history and share my artistic interpretation of those discoveries with local and international communities. This residency provides a unique opportunity to experience and participate in physically unearthing the past and uses my skills to record the story of this archaeological dig artistically. Through graphite, charcoal, ink drawings, and pastel paintings, these realistic depictions will preserve the richness of the archaeological process and this location, capturing the science of historical discovery.
